Jerry Jones And Dez Bryant May Have Helped The Mavericks Land DeAndre Jordan

DezJerryThe NBA free agency period is nearly as entertaining as the regular season itself and just four days in that seems to be holding true once more.

Former Los Angeles Clipper DeAndre Jordan agreed to a four-year contract worth $80 million with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday. Jordan, a Texas native and Dallas Cowboys fan, received some encouragement from an unlikely source. During their presentation to Jordan, the Mavericks played on his Texas roots, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein and Tim McMahon.

In their pitch to Jordan earlier this week, the Mavericks included recorded messages from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and star wide receiver Dez Bryant, playing to Jordan’s well-known fandom of the Cowboys and Bryant in particular.

Despite their financial differences at the moment, Jones and Bryant’s push to Jordan (and $80 million) perhaps made a difference with the center.

Meanwhile, teams like the Los Angeles Lakers don’t have such a luxury. Instead, the Lakers end up with Snoop Dogg and Kobe as selling points.

No wonder LaMarcus Aldridge agreed to a deal with the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday afternoon…instead of the Lakers.
